Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice fan, with some quirks We installed this fan, Brunswick model 54184, with remote control, in our bedroom in December 2018. The fan is extremely quiet and operates well, but it does have some quirks. Whenever you send a command to the fan with the remote control, the fan chirps loudly. Hunter says this is the way the remote system is designed to operate, to let you know the signal was received by the fan, and cannot be changed. So if the fan is in a bedroom, and you want to increase the fan speed in the middle of the night because you are hot, you may wake up your spouse. The other thing to be aware of is that the fan is designed to be operated from the remote controller only. Our bedroom was prewired with 2 wall switches that control 2 hot wires (there is also one white return wire and one bare ground wire) for the fan (one hot wire for the light and one hot wire for the fan motor). The fan was installed exactly as specified in the owner's manual for dual switches, with the black wire from the fan connected to the fan motor hot wire from the wall switch and the blue wire from the fan connected to the light hot wire from the wall switch. If we leave both wall switches on, the fan operates correctly from the remote controller (with the exception that we have been unable to get any dimming of the lights). If you try to use the wall switches rather than the controller, funny things happen. Sometimes the light goes out when you place the light wall switch to on, and sometimes the light goes on when you place the light wall switch to off. Of course, if both wall switches are placed in off, the fan shuts down completely because it has no power. It is obvious to me that the remote controller can in some cases take power from the fan motor line and also send that power to the light. So don't count on any consistent response from your wall switches if you have the dual wall switch configuration. Just use the remote controller.
